I’m a personal trainer who combines his knowledge of fitness (NSCA CPT Certification) and nutrition (ISSA Specialist in Performance Nutrition Certification) with his experience as a professional basketball player, fitness model, and teacher to help people get results, and MAINTAIN those results over a lifetime. I am also a personal trainer who practices what he preaches – I am in top shape year-round. Why hire a trainer who is out of shape and can’t practice the same discipline and hard work that he insists YOU practice? Stick with someone like myself, a positive role model who practices what he preaches.
My background has prepared me well for my current endeavor: being one of the top personal trainers in Hollywood, CA.
Basketball was my life for a really long time. I was lucky enough to earn a full basketball scholarship to Gannon University, a small school in Erie, PA. At Gannon, I finished my career in the top five in points, assists, steals, games played, free throw percentage, and three point field goals made. I also finished my career as the all-time NCAA leader in three point field goals made with 442.
After college, I played 5 years professionally in Europe (4 years in Germany and 1 year in Holland), earning Team MVP honors in 4 of my 5 years. I was always the shortest player on the court, and I was always underestimated. What people saw on the court was a 5 foot 11 shooting guard who wasn’t very athletic compared to the rest of the players. What people didn’t see was the hard work and determination I displayed every day of the year in practice to make myself better. This determination and work ethic rubs off on my clients and makes me a better trainer.
In 2004, I unfortunately had my basketball playing career cut short when I suffered severe injuries to both my ankles. I returned home to Pennsylvania and taught GED at Reading Area Community College for 3 years. Being a teacher required great patience and understanding, along with the same work ethic I displayed in basketball. The patience and understanding that I practiced as a teacher makes me a better trainer, as it is important to know where each client is coming from and what their strengths and weaknesses are.
Being a great personal trainer often requires being a great teacher, and I am lucky to have that in my background.
It was also during this post-basketball playing period that I began competing in fitness model contests. I won my first show, Fitness New York, in August of 2006. In November of that same year, I competed in an international show in Hollywood, CA and finished 2nd.
The preparation and discipline required to compete was intense, and gave me a greater understanding of how you can manipulate nutrition to take your physique to another level. It’s this experience in the fitness field that really makes me a top-notch trainer.
In 2008, I began my personal training career by training independently in Pennsylvania.
In September of 2008, I packed up my things and drove across the country to Hollywood, CA, where I currently work. In 2009, I invented The Moyer Method, a unique and easy way for anyone to not only get the body they want, but to MAINTAIN it. It’s smart, it’s efficient, it’s effective. It’s The Moyer Method.
